Imagine you are a member of the U.S. House of Representatives in 1966, representing citizens in the Dallas area. At this time, Dallas is a growing city with fast-growing suburbs like Garland and Mesquite. This part of Texas, like the rest of the country, is in the middle of huge wave of change. You have been in Congress since 1955, and have a long record of votes on some historically significant pieces of legislation. You would like to run for the U.S. Senate from Texas in the 1966 election. (You may choose to be a Democrat or a Republican.) During the last decade, you voted on a number of significant issues in Congress, such as the Federal-Aid Highway Act (1956), the National Defense Education Act (1958), the National Aeronautics and Space Act (1958), the Civil Rights Act (1964), the Gulf of Tonkin Resolution (1964), the Voting Rights Act (1965), and the Social Security Act Amendments (1965) that created Medicare and Medicaid. Write a letter to the editor of The Dallas Morning News, of at least 500 words, in which you explain what these various acts of Congress were, why they were important to Texans, and why you voted the way you did on them during the last decade. Next, tell the readers, who you hope will vote for you, why they should vote for you based on your votes on these issues. Finally, explain what issues you think will be important between 1967 and 1973 (the period covered by the six-year Senate term you seek), your various positions on these issues, and why you think Texans should support your positions on these upcoming issues. Please use specific historical examples from the 1950s, 60s and 70s (found in the textbook, videos and class discussions) to support your arguments to the voters.

Discussion Post

After reading the assigned articles, write your response. Your response should be at least 500 words, and synthesize, summarize and critically assess the content of the readings. As you have two readings, make sure you address both in your essay post. In other words, demonstrate through your writing that you 1) have done the reading and 2) can articulate some original thoughts about it. This original thought can be an analysis of the author’s main points (i.e showing you understood it), a connection to your own life (synthesis), and/or a critique.

While you do not need to worry about format for these responses, I do expect you to be thoughtful and thorough. That means your response should be treated like a mini essay, with an introduction, body and conclusion. It means complete sentences, proof of reading (e.g. touching on the authors main point(s)), indication of original thought and some organization of that thought. As this is not a formal paper, you may insert your opinion and personal statements into the response.

global assignment

Consider the various dimensions that are used to compare and contrast global cities in the A.T. Kearney Global Cities Index: https://www.atkearney.com/global-cities/full-report

In a 600-900 word statement, please explain the 5 criteria that is used to rank global cities (business activity, human capital, information exchange, cultural experience, and political engagement).  In doing so, please reflect if you believe these criteria are sufficient in comparing and contrasting different “global” cities.  Is there criteria that is missing from this index that should be considered? If so, what?

Please double-space your response paper and write in 12 point font.  Please also be sure to make appropriate citations (you must give credit in paraphrasing or quoting text from others! If not, it’s plagiarism).

CASE STUDY

Prior to beginning work on this discussion, be sure to read the required articles for this week.

You are a consulting psychologist for a local clinic and have been asked to follow up on a consultation you completed four years ago. There are current developments in this case that require further consideration. Please review the or detailed information on the current case under review.

In your initial post, explain how the APA Ethical Principles and Code of Conduct can be used to guide decisions in this ethically complex situation. Provide a suggested course of action for the clinic staff. Given the daughter’s age and the situation presented, integrate concepts developed from different psychological content domains to support your suggested course of action. Be certain to use evidence-based psychological concepts and theories to support your arguments. You may wish to consider the following questions as you construct your post.

  • Should the staff encourage the daughter to inform her mother that she is sexually active?
  • Would knowledge regarding her daughter’s sexual activity influence the mother’s stance regarding disclosure?
  • Should the staff break confidentiality and inform the mother that her daughter is sexually active?
  • Should the staff encourage the mother to inform the daughter of both her and her daughter’s HIV status?
  • Does the daughter’s boyfriend have any rights in this situation? If so, what are they?
  • Based on the daughter’s age, does the mother have a right to not disclose the diagnosis to her daughter?
  • Does the mother have a right to the privacy regarding her own diagnosis, which could be threatened if her daughter learns of her own status?
  • Are there other approaches the staff can take? If so, what are they?
  • Is further information required in order for you to create an ethically sound suggested course of action?
